A Company has reached out to you (your team) to create a solution to aid their users order food online. Using the design thinking approach, walk me through how you intend to create the solution.

Using the design thinking approach for this problem I will critically think about the problem or as a team I will hold a thinking session with my team members and try to solve the problem using the design thinking phases. Firstly,

What is Design Thinking?

Design Thinking is an iterative process in which we seek to understand the user, challenge assumptions, and redefine problems in an attempt to identify alternative strategies and solutions that might not be instantly apparent with our initial level of understanding. It is extremely user-centric. It is basically used to understand users — as it focuses on human first and foremost, challenge assumptions, redefine problems and create innovative solutions to prototype and test. It is what we call a solution-based approach to problem-solving.

THE Ds IN DESIGN

According to Steve Jobs, Design is not just what it looks like and feels like, design is how it works. Some other authors defined it as a process that can help solve a visual or physical problem.

I have been consciously learning about these concepts and using what I learnt I have been able to proffer solution to a real life problem using design. In the course of creating designs with great user interface, and using a trade by batter platform (ExSwap) I designed, I have come to identify some concepts in design which I will…

Rounded up my learning in the senpai academy this week and throughout the course we touched on design concept such as typography (typeface and font, concepts of kerning, tracking and leading and how to apply them in design), colours and colour theory, creating wireframes for design, and also fleshing out the designs.

Another knowledge I picked this up are the various kinds of designs we have and the difference between each of them. These various kinds of design function in different ways and no two type of design does the same thing.

Using the various knowledge we gathered for the different weeks we made designs that made us better understand each individual concepts.

At the end of the course I got better understanding of some new concepts and also learnt some new concepts and how it can be applied.

Design is not about making things pretty just for the sake of it, it’s about making the user’s interaction with the environment more natural and complete.

It’s been three weeks and these and more are the things am beginning to understand in a design 101 training I recently started in Senpai Academy. After the onboarding process in the academy, we dived right into…
